How do I update my business information on Google?

Recently, we’ve had an issue highlighted by a customer that has moved business premises. Now, when the business is listed in a Google search, the old business addressing information remains. This had been raised as a support issue and is in fact, very easy to put right.

There are 3 main ways to change your outdated business information on Google.

The first, and probably easiest way, is to contact Google directly. Follow these steps to contact Google;

  1. Log into your Google account (or create one at
  2. Visit
  3. At the top right-hand corner of the window, click on ‘CONTACT US’
  4. You will then be given the option to either contact Google by requesting a call from Live support, opening a Chat window to a Live support representative, or Emailing support (response within 24 hours)

The second option you have is to claim your listing. This allows you to edit any outdated and new information as required. Follow these steps to claim your listing;

  1. Visit
  2. At the top right-hand corner of the window, click on ‘Get on Google’
  3. Search for your business using the exact name that appears on Google
  4. You should be presented with options allowing you to select your business
  5. Select the checkbox that you are authorised to manage the business
  6. Next, you may be able to automatically gain control or you may be prompted for verification
  7. If you receive a message that someone else controls the listing, you can attempt to contact them using the button provided, or contact Google as in the first method , above

The third method is to update the listing of a business that is not your own, as we may be required to do in supporting our customers. Follow these steps to do this;

  1. Log into your Google account
  2. Go to
  3. Type in the business name in the search box and select the business from the listing
  4. On the resulting information that appears to the left-hand side of the window, click on ‘Suggest an edit’
  5. Here you can suggest edits and additional information and submit the request.

With this method, you must keep in mind that your suggested changes may not be acted upon, depending on verification or ownership.

It’s very important that your business information is accurate within Google, as it is in any directory that potential customers may use. In this case, our customer needed to update a business address, but other information may need to be changed, such as contact details like email, telephony etc.
